Champions League 2024/25: British teams aiming to build momentum on Matchday 2

The quintet of British clubs in this season’s Champions League will be eager to maintain their unbeaten records on Matchday 2.

Three wins and two draws represented a strong start to the revamped competition and each team will want to keep the momentum going in their second outing.

With that in mind, read on as we preview the latest round of Champions League fixtures involving British teams, starting with Manchester City.

Slovan Bratislava vs Manchester City

Manchester City are the bookmakers’ favourites to lift the prestigious trophy, despite being held to a goalless draw by Inter Milan in their opening game.

They are rated as 47/20 shots on the sportsbook linked to the Betpanda ethereum casino and will fancy their chances of making a deep run in the competition.

They are strongly fancied to pick up three points in their next match, with Slovan Bratislava expected to be the whipping boys during the league phase.

However, they were unbeaten at home in four qualifying in matches and Man City would be well-advised not to take them too lightly.

Arsenal vs Paris Saint-Germain

Arsenal were fortunate to take a draw from their first match at Atalanta and must improve if they harbour genuine hopes of winning the Champions League.

But for a fine double save by goalkeeper David Raya, the Gunners would have returned home empty-handed from their trip to Italy.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a late own goal to defeat Girona in their opening fixture, but undoubtedly have the ability to cause Arsenal problems.

With several tricky away trips awaiting further down the line, Mikel Arteta’s side can ill-afford any slip-ups at the Emirates Stadium.

Borussia Dortmund vs Celtic

Celic fans and pundits worked themselves into a frenzy following their 5-1 home victory over Slovan, but they may get a big wake-up call on Matchday 2.

The Scottish Premiership club have a woeful record in the Champions League, particularly whenever they face any of the competition’s big-hitters.

Dortmund don’t quite fall into that category despite reaching the final last season, but they should still be far too strong for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The Bundesliga giants triumphed 3-0 at Club Brugge in their first outing and are strongly fancied to record another comfortable victory against Celtic.

Liverpool vs Bologna

Liverpool recovered from the shock of conceding an early goal at AC Milan to run out 3-1 winners in their opening game at the San Siro.

With Milan subsequently defeating local rivals Inter in Serie A, the Reds deserve a pat on the back for the manner of their performance.

They are the big favourites to beat Bologna in their next game and will expect to get the job done in front of a packed house at Anfield.

Bologna were held to a goalless draw by Shakhtar Donetsk in their first game and are not expected to make too much impact in the Champions League.

Aston Villa vs Bayern Munich

Aston Villa recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Young Boys on their return to the European stage, but will find things a little tougher in their next fixture.

Bayern Munich recorded a 9-2 home win against Dinamo Zagreb and will head to the Midlands believing they can collect another three points.

However, demolishing Croatian minnows on home turf proves little in the grand scheme of things and there is no guarantee they will follow up at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s side are generally tough to beat on their own patch and will be keen to secure a statement result in the Champions League.
