It’s back! Sound the bells and bring out your snoods because Goals of the Week is back.
With four of the big five leagues already in full-swing (the Italian Serie A starts this weekend) there were plenty of goals to choose from, so let’s get right to it.
Swansea put in a decent performance at home to Manchester United but were punished by a defensive lapses and impressive finishing by United. When Robin Van Persie is at his best it is tough to get a result against United, and RVP was certainly at his best on Saturday evening; first getting on to a high ball behind Swansea’s defence and smashing in a bicycle-kick, and later slipping loose to rifle a shot past the keeper from the edge of the box.
Lesser known MLS playing brother to Gonzalo helped Columbus Crew to a 2-0 win over Toronto FC with goals in both halves. His second was this delightful chip over the keeper from outside the box.
Veigneau opened the scoring against Lorient, but unfortunately the newly-promoted Nantes lost the match 2-1 due to goals from Vincent Aboubakar and Jeremie Aliadiere. Still, this is some goal from Veigneau, even though it was meant as a cross!
Perotti’s Seville eventually went down 1-3 against Atlético Madrid thanks in no small part to a brace from the ever belligerent and yet entirely lovable Diego Costa, but Perotti’s equaliser shortly before half-time is our Goal of the Week!
