Goals of the week[end] 25th February 2013

Alright folks, we’ve got some cracking goals from around the leagues for you this week, lots and lots of splendid volleys. As always, there are several really big animated GIFs in this post, so mind out for your mobile data plan. It’s a bit Britain-centric this week but I’ve been ill in bed for the last few days so you’re going to let me off this time, right? Let’s get started :

Papiss Cisse

Sometimes it seems like Papiss Cisse only likes to score amazing goals. This sublime 25 yard strike helped Newcastle to a 4-2 win against Southampton.
Fantastic volley from Cisse, a great long ball from stand-in goalkeeper Rob Elliot, and check out the run from Jonás Gutiérrez which takes the Southampton defence right out of the game.

Dimitar Berbatov

Fulham’s match at home to Stoke was not such a high scoring encounter but the home supporters got their money’s worth with this sumptuous volley from Dimitar Berbatov

Rafael da Silva

One more volley from the Premier League and perhaps the best of the lot. Manchester United didn’t need to get out of second gear to get the three points with a 2-0 win away at QPR with this volley from Rafael after Julio Cesar palmed away Robin van Persie’s shot / cross.

Jordi Amat

How about this for a long-range strike? Spanish defender Jordi Amat had a bit of an up and down game for Rayo Vallecano against Valladolid, where he is currently playing on loan from RCD Espanyol. Having opened the scoring for Valladolid with an own goal in the 71st minute, Amat redeemed himself by lashing in this belter from just inside Valladolid’s half to level the score at 1-1. Unfortunately for Amat and Vallecano, Manucho scored for Valladolid in the 80th minute, giving Valladolid a 2-1 away win.

Luis Suárez

Luis Suárez scored two great free-kicks as Liverpool bowed out of the Europa League against Zenit Saint Petersburg despite winning 3-1 on the night. Here’s our favourite :

Chris Erskine

One more volley to finish, this belter from Chris Erskine grabbed the win for Partick Thistle against Airdrie United in a match that finished 1-0 in the Scottish First Division.
