Chelsea have suffered a huge blow as key midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old joined the Blues in the 2023 January transfer window and has since over 60 senior appearances for the Londoners.
He has been one of the key members of Mauricio Pochettino’s team this season, starting 26 Premier League games and scoring three goals.
But Chelsea have now revealed that Enzo Fernandez has undergone a surgery on a groin issue and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
The young midfielder also faces a race against time to be fit in time for the Copa America this summer.
Losing such an important player for the remaining six league fixtures is a blow for Mauricio Pochettino’s side who have had an underwhelming 2023-24 campaign.
The Blues suffered a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal in their previous outing at the Emirates Stadium, with Ben White and Kai Havertz both netting a brace.
They now face a tough fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday evening at Villa Park, with the game available to watch through the Premier League live streams.
Pochettino and his team will then host Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United before their final three fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth in 2023-24.
