Liverpool took another step towards the Premier League title as they cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
The result means the Reds are now 13 points clear at the top of the league standings.
Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 11th minute as the Hungarian brilliantly slotted home Luis Diaz’s cut back pass.
The hosts had to wait until the second-half to double their advantage. Alexis Mac Allister combined really with Mohamed Salah before unleashing a powerful shot to bag his fifth goal of the season.
Salah didn’t get on the scoresheet himself but the Egyptian produced a sensational display in the Anfield encounter.
The 32-year-old was full of confidence and energy, while his playmaking was sublime.
He showed great composure to set up Mac Allister, and was a nightmare to handle for the Newcastle defenders.
Salah posted excellent statistics in the match. He was on the pitch for the whole game and had 61 touches and completed 28 of his 32 passes (88% accuracy).
The experienced forward registered four key passes, created two big chances and made two tackles.
He also won 100% of his aerial duels and completed 100% of his long balls.
Salah has been enjoying an excellent Premier League campaign as he has started all 28 matches, scoring 25 goals and creating 17 assists in the process.
He is leading the golden boot race this term, with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland five goals behind him in second.
However, the concern for fans is that the Egypt international could leave Anfield in the summer. His contract will expire in June but he is yet to agree a new deal with the club.
Salah has turned 32 but given his quality on the pitch, the Reds should hand him a new contract.
