Postecoglou insists he is only focused on Tottenham after being linked to England job

Ange Postecoglou has insisted that he is fully focused on his current job at Tottenham Hotspur after being linked with the England job.

The Football Association are searching for a new manager after Gareth Southgate resigned from his post following the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 final loss to Spain.

Postecoglou is among several names who have been linked to succeed Southgate, including Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the Australian boss, who saw his side defeat Hearts 5-1 in their first pre-season friendly, has insisted that he is only focused on his current job at Spurs.

“I am at the start of pre-season and am the Tottenham manager, so I have got nothing else [on my mind] but trying to bring success to this football club,” Postecoglou told Sky Sports News (per The Guardian). “Until I do that, there is no point in me thinking about anything else. I had a nap this afternoon, so I have no idea what is going on [with the speculation].”

Postecoglou managed the Australia national team from 2013 to 2017 and guided them to the 2015 Asian Cup title.

He left his role a week after the Socceroos secured qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

After a successful stint at Yokohama F. Marinos, the 58-year-old took over Celtic as head coach in 2021 and led them to two Scottish Premiership titles.

Postecoglou failed to secure Tottenham a Champions League berth last season, but he remains very popular among Spurs supporters for introducing an attacking brand of football.

The Lilywhites lost their best player in Harry Kane last summer, and it was expected to be a very difficult 2023-24 season for them.

However, they went on to make an impressive start to the campaign under Postecoglou, although a late season collapse ultimately saw them finishing fifth in the table.
